Posted a Miss USA Michigan / Ohio fic for Michigan's birthday. Could've done a WttT one, but y'know. Equality and women are wonderful and all that. "I Hate Everything About You," on AO3, hope y'all enjoy

I put the photo setup out today to see if things are more busy. No fall migrants but some nice ones of the current regulars. After two cold days it is warming up again, and maybe things will liven up at the pond and feeders for a bit. (Chickadee, MoDo, Cardinal, Redbellied Woodpecker)

I love that Hatchetfield is on an island...but is in the Midwest. A place that is notoriously landlocked.

We have several maples in the yard but they don't really look super spectacular usually. This one decided to change things up, and I love it.

On September 7, 1968 the public was enlightened as to the presence of a new feminist movement in the United States. The protest of the Miss America pageant, engineered by sixty New York Radical Women, was symbolic, threatening, theatrical and above all, eye-opening. Although the publication of Betty Friedan's book, The Feminine Mystique in 1963 may have suggested symptoms of female unrest and served to precipitate the foundation of N.O.W., the Miss America protest thrust an immediate, non-verbal impression of female dissent on an unsuspecting nation.
. . .
Described as a "day long boardwalk theatre event," the Miss America contest was a logical primary target because of the ideal of American womanhood that it extolled. Carol Hanisch in her "Critique of the Miss America Protest" summarized the basic intent of this first zap action:
At this point in our struggle, our actions should be aimed primarily at doing two inter-related things: (1) awakening the latent consciousness of women about their own oppression and (2) building sisterhood.
In this analysis of the Miss America protest, the two major agitational elements of the zap action emerge: (1) promulgation and (2) solidification, i.e., the media is exploited to awaken consciousness and simultaneously, to reinforce the sisterhood motif. When the N.Y. Radical Women crowned a live sheep "Miss America 1968" and deposited the trappings of traditional womanhood such as bras, girdles, false eyelashes and issues of Cosmopolitan in the Freedom Trash Can, they were noticed. Participants in this zap action were severely criticized for their use of lateral deviance (a pattern of agitation which occurs when the agitators dispute the existent value system and reject the values of the non-deviants). These agitators with their anti-women, anti-beauty stances, signs and slogans such as "Miss American Sells It" and 'Miss American Is Big Falsie" were both rejecting the social values of the establishment as well as presenting a complex, ambiguous image to the public. Vertical deviance, the other pattern of agitation, was not employed in the Miss American protest because this pattern entails the acceptance of the establishment’s value system while merely disputing the distribution of power within that system. The N.Y. Radical Women did not wish to judge the beauty pageant; they wished to undermine it.
Although the negative image projected by this first zap action and numerous future zap actions was sharply censured by less militant feminists as well as the general public, the impact of lateral deviance placed the feminist concerns in the limelight and served to educate the layperson as to the existence of women's liberation.
-Sally J. Cloninger, A Rhetorical Analysis of Feminist Agitation

few questions i wanted to ask. i know the video's like 9+ years old now, but whatever happened to that video you had on your old youtube that was just a still image of raj from camp lazlo with you narrating over it telling people to not watch montage parodies, and what was the tune that accompanied it? because i completely forgot it was for years now. also, are there any aspects of florida that you kinda miss which you feel like you really can't get in chicago?
basically asking "song name?" on a video i not only made but also DELETED a decade ago is admirable dedication. here u go homie ur journey finally ends tonight thank u for the patience✌️🤝

There's a zoo downstate that currently has realistic, life size dinosaurs and I *need* to see them!
I planned around my time on-call, around medical appointments, and around Bonus Kid's school/band schedule. I took a day off work, even recruiting one of my officemates to take my meeting that day.
And of course I woke up yesterday congested, aching, and feverish! 😭
